Farnborough Airport begins 12 months of PIR data gathering in accordance with CAA requirements and sends letter to notify all FACC members of this.

Decision by CAA that PIR data gathering could now begin. This had been delayed due to the impact of COVID 19 on aviation.

• Further evening briefing sessions for members of the public and other interested parties have taken place.
• From Friday 11th April 2014 11.02am to Wednesday 16th April 2014 10.08am there was a technical fault with the Airspace Change Proposal website (www.consultation.tagfarnborough.com). This resulted in all submissions between this time not being recorded and no confirmation emails being sent out to respondents. All other parts of the website were unaffected throughout this period. The fault was fixed on Wednesday 16th April 2014 and the website is functioning correctly.
• The consultation website has been visited over 50,000 times.

• TAG Farnborough Airport is undertaking an Airspace Change Proposal (ACP), a formal UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) process, in order to introduce a new airspace design in the vicinity of the airport. The purpose of TAG Farnborough Airport’s ACP is to create a new operating environment with elements of controlled airspace, which would offer all airspace users predictability and consistency of operation. Overall, this could further reduce noise and CO2 emissions, improving the environment in and around the airport. It is also set to improve efficiency and enhance safety.

• Further real time development simulations took place at the NATS Corporate and Technical Centre. These simulations tested how Farnborough air traffic interacts with Southampton Airport.
• Advice from Safety and Airspace Regulation Group (SARG) regarding new European regulatory rules taken into account.

Recent activities

• TAG Farnborough Airport and NATS provided an update on the status of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) to the FACC on Thursday 27th June 2013. The committee was informed about how the proposed airspace design could affect arrival and departure routes. It was also asked to provide feedback on how best to engage with the communities they represent.
• The pre-consultation airspace design has continued to be developed with stakeholder input. A favoured design has been identified, which will be subjected to simulation testing, before it is taken to formal consultation later this year.
• Work has continued to establish a dedicated ACP page on the TAG Farnborough Airport website.

• Dedicated Airspace Change Proposal page to be established on the TAG Farnborough Airport website. It will include details about the ACP, the formal consultation and how stakeholders, including members of the public, can give their feedback on the proposed design.

• Meeting held with key aviation stakeholder NetJets in London on 22nd January 2013 to gain initial requirements.
• Many key aviation stakeholders have now been informed of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) at TAG Farnborough Airport and been given an opportunity to outline their initial requirements.
• NATS, TAG Farnborough Airport’s provider of air traffic services, organised an internal air traffic control (ATC) technical workshop at NATS Swanwick centre on 16th January 2013 to discuss design and procedure options in more detail.

Planned activities: February 2013

• TAG Farnborough Airport and NATS is consulting a number of aviation stakeholders on a regular basis during this initial preparatory phase to fully understand their requirements. A second set of meetings with key aviation stakeholders is being set up in February. Additional meetings will also be established to engage a wider group of aviation stakeholders in the coming weeks and months.
• As part of a continued process of engagement, a meeting is planned with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s Directorate of Airspace Policy (DAP) on 15th February 2013 to provide an update on the progress of the ACP and what the early design options may look like.

• A one-day pilot workshop took place at TAG Farnborough Airport on 4th December 2012 and was attended by a cross section of pilots who use the airport regularly. The workshop sessions helped gather further information, requirements and capabilities that will assist in developing detailed airspace design options.

• An initial meeting is planned with key aviation stakeholder NetJets (date TBC). Once carried out, all key aviation stakeholders will have been informed of the proposed changes at TAG Farnborough Airport and been given an opportunity to outline their initial requirements.

• Planning and preparation carried out for one day pilot workshop at TAG Farnborough Airport on 4th December 2012.
• Technical and theoretical work carried out relating to possible designs of precision approach and departure procedures.

Planned activities: December 2012

• One day pilot workshop at TAG Farnborough Airport on 4th December 2012. The workshop is designed to gain an understanding of the requirements of operators who fly in and out of TAG Farnborough and other airports in the region.
• Feedback from initial key stakeholder meetings to be analysed and fed into the early design process.
• Organise follow-up meetings with key stakeholders and initial meetings with other stakeholders to take place over the coming months.

Recent activities

• An Airspace Change Proposal overview was presented to the FACC on 4th October 2012, followed by questions and answers from the Committee.
• Frequently asked questions (FAQs) are also made available on this and TAG Farnborough Airport websites.
• TAG meetings were held in October with key aviation stakeholders such as RAF Odiham, Fairoaks Airport and Blackbushe Airport to gain an understanding of their airspace requirements.
